BREAKING:

ChatGPT Introduces Scheduling for Reminders and Recurring Tasks

OpenAI’s ChatGPT now allows paying users to schedule reminders and recurring tasks through a new beta feature called Tasks. Rolling out this week to ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Pro users worldwide, the feature enables simple reminders like, “Remind me when my passport expires in six months,” with push notifications sent to enabled platforms.

Users can also set recurring requests, such as “Every Friday, give me a weekend plan based on my location and the weather forecast,” or “Provide a daily news briefing at 7 a.m.” This update enhances ChatGPT’s utility as a personal assistant.

OpenAI’s new Tasks feature marks a step toward AI systems that can act independently, often referred to as AI agents. While limited, Tasks allows ChatGPT users to set reminders and schedule information requests, moving closer to capabilities expected from assistants like Siri or Alexa. Unlike traditional assistants, Tasks introduces features like recurring, scheduled web browsing, though it doesn’t yet support real-time monitoring or purchases.

Users can access Tasks by selecting “4.0 with scheduled tasks” in ChatGPT and manage them through conversations or a dedicated web-based task manager. OpenAI notes that ChatGPT may even suggest tasks based on ongoing chats. However, the beta version is limited—Advanced Voice Mode is excluded, and Tasks are currently unavailable in the mobile app or free tier.

This initial rollout provides insight into how users interact with agentic capabilities ahead of future advancements. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has highlighted 2025 as a pivotal year for AI agents, predicting their integration into the workforce. OpenAI is also developing more sophisticated agentic systems, like a tool reportedly called Operator, which could handle complex tasks like coding and travel booking.

While these developments hint at a transformative shift in AI applications, they also raise concerns about control and safety as OpenAI expands the scope of agentic AI. The company aims to ensure robust safeguards while pushing the limits of what AI assistants can achieve.
